NYSEA Presents The 10th Annual NY Surf Week
LONG BEACH, NY (July 10-14) – NYSEA is hosting the 10th annual New York Surf Week, anchored between Long Beach Road and Riverside Boulevard in Long Beach, NY from Wednesday July 10th to Sunday July 14th. This New York Surf Week (NYSW) celebrates a decade of honoring the New York surf community with surf and skate competitions, outings with not-for-profit partners and adaptive athletes, a boardwalk vendor fair, family events, film premieres and parties.
This year NYSEA teamed up with Yeti, Sierra Nevada, Chameleon Cold Brew, Dragon Sunglasses, Clifbar and Skudin Surf Camps to present an exciting week of good times both on and off the beach. Wednesday starts the week off with an Adaptive All-Stars Surf Competition, followed by the NYSW Kick-Off Happy Hour with Sierra Nevada at The Beach House in Long Beach, NY.
Thursday hosts the Surf Outing for the Henry Viscardi School, a day on the beach – and in the ocean – with adaptive athletes and their friends and families. That night, NYSW premieres a couple of films, featuring ‘And Two if By Sea: The Story of CJ and Damien Hobgood’, a film about brothers who pushed each other to become two of the most iconic professional surfers in the world. CJ, Damien, and director Justin Purser will be in attendance to share and discuss the film, which will be shown at Bridgeview Yacht Club in Island Park, NY. Movie night will also feature a cash bar and Sierra Nevada specials. Tickets for the event are $20, and free for children under 5.
Friday begins the waiting period for the Lady Liberty Classic women’s surf competition and the NYSEA Junior Pro surf contest. Both events have a $1,500 prize purse. Later that night, NYSW hosts the annual NYSEA Summer Party and Halfpipe Jam at Pop’s Seafood Shack and Grill, with music, a cash bar and Sierra Nevada specials, and a halfpipe overlooking the water in Island Park, NY.
Saturday kicks off the opening of the boardwalk vending village, open from 9am to 9pm all weekend long. In addition to the surf contests, the memorial paddle out for George ‘Geeza’ Geiser will also take place on Saturday afternoon. Sunday finishes off the week with the girls and boys kids’ surf competitions, the Kids and Adults Bowl and Street Bash Skate Contest at the Long Beach Skatepark, and concludes the juniors’ and women’s surf contests.
