No matter what level of surfer you are, there will come a day where you will be fighting for your life or helping save another. Surfing is a sport that gives us the great feeling of life but at the same time can take it away from us. Accidents happen and when they do, it is up to you and your friends to be prepared to save each others lives. During this winter swell that is exactly what happened.
“In a day of bombs and barrels at Belmar Beach, NJ, after dozens of perfect waves, Craig Fisher of Long Beach, NY was thrown over the falls getting pummeled into the shallow bottom fracturing his spine. Left nearly helpless, the salty air filled with sounds of agony as fellow Long Beach NY surfer, Phil Bachmann came to his aid in what was a moving display of the brotherhood among surfers. With the teamwork of other surfers on the beach such as Sean Byrne and Kenny Healey, they were able to get him up the beach for EMTs to take over. After a night in the hospital, Fisher was able to leave in a brace and hopes to get back in the water as soon as possible. On days like that Sunday, the unspoken bond of surfers is manifest.” -Glenn Bachmann
