An Open Call: Surf, Water, and the People Who Show Up

There’s no single version of surfing in New York.

Some days it’s cold and empty.
Some days it’s crowded and chaotic.
A lot of days, it’s small.

But people keep showing up anyway.

That’s what NYSEA has always been about — documenting the real experience of surfing here. Not just the good days, but all of it: the winter sessions, the flat spells, the parking lots, the early mornings, the familiar faces.

And we don’t want to tell that story alone.

We’re Looking for People Who Are Out There

Surfers.
Photographers.
Filmmakers.
Artists.

If your work is shaped by the ocean in and around New York — we want to see it.

Not just perfect waves or highlight clips.
The in-between moments matter just as much.

  • The paddle-outs
  • The missed sets
  • The freezing hands
  • The days that didn’t look like much, but felt like everything

What to Send

Anything that reflects surf and ocean culture here:

  • Short clips (phone footage is more than welcome)
  • Photos (water, land, people, details)
  • Edits or longer-form video
  • Artwork inspired by the sea

Raw is good. Real is better.

If you’re submitting, please include:

A Few Things to Know

  • We’ll always credit your work
  • You keep ownership of everything you submit
  • We’ll reach out if we plan to share something specific
  • There’s no pressure — send one clip or a whole folder

Why We’re Doing This

NYSEA isn’t built on hype or trends.
It’s built on the people who keep showing up.

This is just a way to make sure that’s reflected — honestly, and from as many perspectives as possible.

If you’re out there, we’d like to see it.
